2011 has turned out to be a challenging year!  Volunteerism is definitely down and there is less media  attention given to invasive species problems. In January, the wackers were up on Shaw Butte, where we noticed a virtual buffelgrass nursery in progress. From there we drafted a letter to the City of Phoenix Parks Department, hoping that we could take action ourselves in regards to the spraying of new seedlings. We're still waiting to see what happens. We need more people and more different actions taken to prevent our preserves from being covered with savannah grass!

March found some of the weedwackers at Tonto National Forest helping Patti Fenner, and April turned out to be the coldest, wettest event ever. With help from some Eagle Scouts we worked in an area where we used the extra legpower to transport our bags. 40 degrees and raining!

Twice this year we have worked along the Dreamy Draw bike path. Buffelgrass and fountain grass are both found here. We tried our best with a few volunteers!
